Time spent on footpath project queried

'The public are asking why it's taking so long'

“WHY do council projects take so long?” That’s the question that baffles the public, and cllr Michael Doran raised the issue at last week’s county council meeting.

Members had just discussed the Carlow Town Centre project, expected to take two years, prompting cllr Doran to question the length of time some projects take.

“The Kilkenny Road footpath is taking an extraordinary length of time and there’s no major alterations there … the public are asking why it is taking so long,” said cllr Doran.

Cllr Fergal Browne remarked that there were services underneath the footpath.

“Everything seems simpler than it is,” remarked chief executive Coilín O’Reilly, adding that no contractor on a site would want to spend longer than necessary on the project.

“I’m the same as everyone, I want things done tomorrow, but there are procedures in place and every programme of works is different,” he said.
