Tributes have been paid to a stalwart of the Carlow community, who sadly died at the weekend.

Ciss (Sarah) Carpenter (née Whitty) Barrack Street, Carlow Town, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, under the wonderful care of the nurses and staff at Hillview Nursing Home.

Compassionate, hardworking and a true friend of Carlow, Ciss was known the length and breath of the county. She offered enormous comfort to many, many families in their grief, supported countless organisations and communities and was known widely for a kind and generous nature.

Predeceased by her loving husband Paddy, daughter Lee, son-in-law Dan, grandson Simon and brothers Peter, Paddy and Tom, Ciss was originally from Craanford, Wexford.

Much-loved mother of Anne, Eleanor, Marie, Patrick , Nicky, Mogue and Marc and treasured grandmother of Shane, Molly, Finn, Anna, Una, Liam, Annik, Emily, Jane and Conor.

She will be sadly missed by her loving sons , daughters, grandchildren, sons-in-law Brian and Bernard, daughters-in-law Linda and Marguerita, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and her many good friends.

Reposing at Carpenter Bros Funeral Home, Shamrock Square, Carlow (Eircode R93 C863) today Monday, 16 September from 4pm, concluding with Prayers at 7.30pm.

Removal tomorrow Tuesday at 9.45am to The Cathedral of the Assumption Carlow, arriving for Funeral Mass at 10am. Burial afterwards in St Mary’s Cemetery, Carlow
