South Carlow first responder group is seeking new volunteers

South Carlow First Responders need you!
DO YOU want to make a difference in your community? The South Carlow Community First Responders (CFR) are seeking new volunteers to join their dedicated team.
Volunteers come from various backgrounds to undertake training to attend specific emergency calls. Covering a 10km radius across south Carlow, the group responds to potential life-threatening situations such as cardiac arrests, strokes and other medical emergencies, providing crucial initial assistance in the vital minutes before an ambulance arrives.
The South Carlow CFR team plays an essential role in enhancing emergency response times, serving areas from St Mullins in the south to Goresbridge in the north, and from Coppenagh on the west of Graignamanagh to Knockroe in the east. Within this radius, they cover communities including Borris, Ballymurphy, Glynn, Graignamanagh, Raheendonore, Rathanna, Skeoughvasteen, and many more.
To expand its team and ensure a rapid response in emergencies, South Carlow CFR is hosting two open evenings on 16 and 23 September. These events provide an opportunity for residents to meet the team, learn more about the vital role of a first responder and gain insights into the training and commitment involved.
Brian O’Farrell, a member of South Carlow CFR since the very start, said: “Volunteering with South Carlow CFR is so much more than just attending calls – it’s about truly engaging with the community and giving back in a way that feels deeply meaningful. Every time I respond, I know I’m contributing to something bigger than myself, helping to make a real difference in people’s lives when it matters most. It’s a reminder that, together, we can be a lifeline for our neighbours.
“We are always eager to welcome new volunteers into our group – no matter your background or experience, there’s a place for you here. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that, as a volunteer, you are part of something that genuinely strengthens our community,” he said.
The first of the evenings on Monday 16 September will take place in the Scouts Den, Graignamanagh (R95 FX02). This will be followed by the open evening in Borris Town Hall (R95 V29P) on 23 September. Both evenings run from 7pm to 9pm. For further information, visit www.southcarlowcfr.ie or e-mail southcarlowcfr@gmail.com.
