Quick pick Lotto €200,000 winner makes contact

PJ Hickson, owner of Centra Burrin Road where the ticket was sold on Wednesday 4 February, has somewhat of a reputation for selling winning tickets.

A CARLOW Lotto player who won nearly €200,000 last week on a quick pick ticket has made contact with officials.

The draw took place on Saturday 7 February and it took a few days for the winner, or winners, to make contact. Over 99,000 players won prizes in that draw, but the player in Carlow won the largest prize worth €195,118, National Lottery spokesperson Sarah Orr said last week.

PJ Hickson, owner of Centra Burrin Road where the ticket was sold on Wednesday 4 February, has somewhat of a reputation for selling winning tickets. His other shop, Hickson’s Centra store on Staplestown Road, sold a Lotto ticket worth €19 million to a group of workers at Dan Morrissey Ltd in 2008. The Hickson’s Centra at Potato Market in Carlow town sold another ticket worth €37,000 in 2022.

Asked if he had a lucky charm, PJ said: “I don’t know about that. I’m not that lucky ̓cos I didn’t win it. But it’s great for the shop, great for the locality, and, hopefully, it goes to someone who needs it.”

PJ believes the winner is local due to the shop’s typical client profile and that they appear to want to remain anonymous.
