Quick as a flash, Lar gets spectacular shot

The lightning bolt caught on camera by Ballon photographer Lar McCarthy

BATTEN down the batches … is the nation’s favourite sliced pan about to become toast?

This dramatic photo was taken last Tuesday in Ballon, when eagle-eyed amateur photographer Lar McCarthy struck again to capture this spectacular photo during a thunder and lightning storm.

Just days after Lar from Mullaunmore, Ballon managed to capture the unusual sight of a ‘burger moon’ over Co Carlow skies, Lar proved that when it comes to being in the right place at the right time, he’s the best thing since sliced bread!

“It started around lunchtime and I was at the back door. I could see the lightning bolt so I started videoing in case there was a lightning strike and a few minutes later I got it,” said Lar.

Much to the relief of all, the chances of a crisp sandwich were averted and the lightning strike didn’t make brown bread of the neighbour’s Brennan’s delivery van.

The short-lived but intense thunder and lightning storm hit most of the county last Tuesday around lunchtime.
