PLANS for the refurbishment of the former Bank of Ireland building at Court Place in Carlow town will be on public display until 29 November. The plans will then be open to submissions and observations up until the end of December, members of Carlow Municipal District were informed by council management at their recent meeting.
It is planned that the Georgian and Victorian elements of the bank building will be protected and refurbished. The objective is to create a shared space and to open up the facility.
There will be 890 metres of office space. There will also be a shared reception space and it is intended that there will be a new car park.
Initial proposals for a two-storey development were thought to be “too imposing” by council management, along with the fact that the building is a protected structure.
Cathaoirleach Fintan Phelan said it was “very welcome to see” work being planned to be done .
Funding, the councillors were told, could be a long drawn-out process but it will be a huge improvement to the area.
