Plans for new health building at SETU

SETU Carlow
South East Technological University (SETU) have applied to Carlow County council for planning permission at the local campus. The college, which has just welcomed students for the new semester, is seeking to expand its facilities on the Kilkenny Road. A planning application lodged with the local authority in late August states the development will consist of the construction of a part single storey, part 4 storey Third Level Educational Health Sciences Building of 6,133m² gross internal floor area. Comprising science laboratories, clinics, sports and health science spaces including large gym labs and a running track, and administration rooms. A central roof-lit social space on the upper floors and large entrance hall in the southeast corner of the building are also envisioned. Planting and screening would be at roof level.
In addition to the provision of 176 additional bicycle parking spaces, planning is also sought for the provision of a 105m² sheltered bike store on the eastern boundary of the campus. All associated site development works, site services, signage, provision of sustainable drainage systems and landscaping works are included in the planning application.
A new corporate support services building opened at SETU recently. The building also serves as the new Campus Reception and incorporates a new kitchen and dining space and a Café and seating area.
Submissions on the proposals are welcomed before the end of this month, with a decision due by Carlow County council on October 21.
