ESB Networks' €750,000 upgrade project will cause planned blackouts across eight local areas throughout July and into August.

Residents and businesses in Tullow and surrounding areas are experiencing planned power outages as part of ongoing ESB Networks infrastructure upgrades that will continue through early August.

The utility company began the six-week project at the end of June, implementing planned blackouts across the region to facilitate €750,000 worth of network improvements.

Power cuts are taking place on an area-by-area basis across eight locations:

  • Clonmore
  • Killenure
  • Knockballystine
  • Knockloe
  • Mullinacuffe
  • Redbog
  • Stranakelly
  • Tullow

The work will take place over the six-week period, with ESB Networks coordinating the project to complete the network upgrades.

All affected customers receive advance warning of planned outages through postal notifications with specific outage times and dates and SMS text messages to registered mobile numbers.

Tom Morrissey, area manager with ESB Networks, acknowledged the inconvenience: “We acknowledge the disruption to family and commercial life this causes and thank our customers for their patience during this time.”

Customers can check real-time outage information and estimated restoration times at www.PowerCheck.ie.

The planned interruptions are part of ESB Networks’ broader Networks for Net Zero Strategy, designed to create a more resilient electrical grid that can better withstand severe weather events and support renewable energy integration.

The upgrade work represents a significant investment in local infrastructure, with the utility company promising improved service quality and greater network capacity once the project is completed in early August.
