AFTER a long wait, a new addition to Carlow Town Bus Park is hoping to finally make a splash!

Carlow County Council recently installed a new water font, which provides beautiful fresh water 24/7 without having to even touch a button.

The new font is UV filtered, solar powered and works entirely on sensors so all you have to do it place your empty bottle under the dispenser and, without touching a thing, it’s a refreshing fill of H20.

“I first put forward a motion for a water font for Carlow town in 2019 and I’ve been following it up consistently since, so I’m delighted now that we have a water font,” said mayor of Carlow cllr Fintan Phelan.

“It’s designed using sensors, so you just place your bottle underneath the spout and hold in over the sensor and don’t touch a thing, so it’s very hygienic and, of course, completely free.” Cllr Phelan explained that the water font also calculates the number of litres dispensed, so it can accurately indicate how many plastic bottles were spared by using this much more environmentally-sound way to hydrate.

“The plan is to see how this goes and then make the call about having a water font in other locations. I would encourage people to use it as it is another great facility in our town,” he added.

Cllr Phelan also thanked director of services Padraig O’Gorman, who “really drove the project forward”.
