New video is a trip down memory lane for Carlow Fire Service

Produced by Carlow County Council's heritage office and Frame It Productions and the local fire and rescue service, the video is a trip down memory lane

A VIDEO highlighting the history of Carlow Fire Service has been uploaded to YouTube as part of a wider series exploring the county’s emergency services through the years.

Produced by Carlow County Council’s heritage office and Frame It Productions, in collaboration with retired firefighter Paul Curran and the wider fire and rescue service, the video records the voices and memories of past and current members. It was published on the Carlow County Library YouTube channel.

Cathaoirleach of the council, Thomas Kinsella, launched the video and highlighted the work and achievements of the county’s fire service through the years, particularly its ISO standards certifications, which, he said, made the service the envy of many local authorities.

The video, which runs for just over 20 minutes, features a number of retired service members who spent many years protecting the people of Carlow and the surrounding area, including Tommy Lalor, John Maxwell and Patrick Kelly.

Acting chief fire officer Ben Woodhouse congratulated the service’s staff and said the equipment procurement and staff training achievements outlined in the video reflected the ambition of the service over the years.

Carlow County Council heritage officer, Eoin O’Sullivan, thanked the current and retired members who were involved in the project and gave their time generously to ensure the video reflected their camaraderie and experiences.

A video highlighting the heritage of the ambulance service, produced in 2024, was also recently published on the Carlow County Library YouTube channel.

The fire service video can be viewed at Heritage of the Emergency Services in County Carlow - Carlow County Fire Service.
