A BEAUTIFUL new sensory area has just been launched in Carlow County Library as part of the completely refurbished children’s section.

Librarian James Durkan told that over the past few years there has been clear demand from the community for a sensory area to be installed in the library.

He said that the area had been under construction for three months, including the upgrading of the children’s library. James said that the works were designed to complement the old character of the library building.

“It’s got a completely new layout. The entire area has been painted and new furniture has been installed,” he said. “The library is bright and open and an inclusive place for people to come in. There is something for everyone in here.” The launch featured lots of fun and games, including face painting while there was also a performance from the young musicians in Music Generation Carlow.

Local politicians and councillors, including TD Catherine Callaghan and minister of state Jennifer Murnane O’Connor, along with library staff, attended the launch which was held during National Library Day.
The library service received funding for it from the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, which was then matched by Carlow County Council.
The library team hope that the renovations and new sensory area bring more people into the building.
