New probationer garda for Carlow

New probationer garda for Carlow

CARLOW has gained an extra probationer garda after this year’s attestation ceremony at the Garda College in Templemore on Friday 1 May.

There were 27 newly-sworn gardaí appointed to the eastern region, which covers the Leinster counties except for Dublin, Louth and Longford. These gardaí are initially appointed to training garda stations, which allows other members to be transferred between divisions.

Nationally, 193 gardaí were attested as sworn members of An Garda Síochána after being recruited in the 2024/2025 campaign. A new class of 209 trainees will begin their training at Templemore on Monday 4 May.

Minister of state Jennifer Murnane O’Connor welcomed the allocation of two probationer gardaí to her electorate in Carlow and Kilkenny. “Continued investment in garda resources and personnel is essential so that they can meet the operational demands placed on them and deliver effective policing on the ground,” she said.

“These new gardaí will make a real difference for the people of Carlow and Kilkenny. They will strengthen the existing garda presence in our community and give local gardaí the resources they need to respond quickly and effectively,” minister Murnane O’Connor stated.
