TWENTY-FIVE new car parking spaces have been made available to the public in Bagenalstown, just in time for the Christmas period.

The spaces, available since Friday 19 December, are in St Mary’s Church of Ireland following discussions between Carlow Co Council and the church committee. The agreement will be trialled for six months and is in response to concerns raised about a lack of car parking spaces in Bagenalstown.

Cllr Daniel Pender, one of the councillors who supported the move for extra parking spaces in Bagenalstown, said: “This is being introduced at one of the busiest times of the year for local businesses. Encouraging people to shop local must go hand-in-hand with making it easier for residents to access their local shops.”

The parking spaces in St Mary’s church are free of charge.
