Pedestrian (70s) dies after being struck by car in Co Laois

A man, aged in his 70s, has died after being struck by a car on Main Street, Abbeyleix, Co Laois, on Wednesday evening.

The collision involving a car and a pedestrian occurred at approximately 7pm, with gardaí and emergecny services attending the scene.

The pedestrian was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore where he was later pronounced dead.

The road was closed for technical examination, and has since reopened.

No other injuries have been reported. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6.30pm and 7.30pm yesterday evening are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
