Much-loved doctor passes away in Bagenalstown

TRIBUTES have been flooding in as people pay their respects to a much-loved and respected doctor who has passed away in Bagenalstown.
Dr Brendan Coffey passed away, peacefully, on Monday 3 August in St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny, surrounded by his family.
He served the community of Bagenalstown and its outlying areas as a general practitioner for decades, taking care of generation after generation of local residents.
Former patients, colleagues, local residents and friends all paid tribute to Dr Coffey on rip.ie as his funeral arrangements were announced.
‘He was an absolute gentleman and a great doctor who looked after us and our family for 40 years’ said one former patient while another said, ‘he will be remembered as a huge part of our community, a great GP and a true gentleman’.
Dr Coffey was a part of the community in Bagenalstown, with another person acknowledging his role in BEAM Services.
‘A true gentleman and a great caring doctor, he will be greatly missed. His expertise and advice were also of tremendous value during his involvement with BEAM Services over many years up to the present time,’ said another person.
Dr Coffey of The Gables, Royal Oak Road, Bagenalstown and formerly of Sandymount, Dublin 4, is predeceased by his beloved wife Laureen, brother Michael, father Chris and mother, Bride. Brendan will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his children Declan, Peter, Chris and Laura, his partner Kay and her family, son-in-law Dave, daughters-in-law Julia and Stacy, grandchildren, extended family, dear former colleagues in Bachelors Walk Medical Centre and his patients in the Bagenalstown area.
Reposing at Cushen’s Funeral Home, Kilcarrig Street, Bagenalstown (R21 V127) today, Friday 7 August from 3pm until 8pm, with prayers at 6pm. Requiem Mass will be held at St Andrew’s Church, Bagenalstown tomorrow, Saturday 8 August at 11am. Funeral Mass will be followed by burial in the Cemetery of the Assumption, Bagenalstown.
