Minister to attend sports fund evening in Carlow College this Thursday

Minister of state Charlie McConalogue

SPORTS and community groups across Co Carlow will have the opportunity to learn more about the 2026 Community Sports Facilities Fund at an information event this Thursday.

Minister of state for sport and postal policy Charlie McConalogue will attend the Community Sports Facility Fund information evening on Thursday at 8pm in Cobden Hall, Carlow College, College Street. Representatives from clubs and organisations across the county interested in learning more about the Community Sports Facility Fund (formerly the Sports Capital and Equipment Fund) are welcome to attend.

The information evening was organised by minister of state at the Department of Health Jennifer Murnane O’Connor, who invited minister McConalogue to Carlow to meet clubs and organisations keen to learn more about the fund. The information evening will also be attended by Active Carlow, formerly Carlow Local Sports Partnership, which will also offer guidance and support on the fund.

“Co Carlow received over €4.8 million in the 2024 Community Sports Facilities Fund ‒ the highest ever allocated to the county,” said minister Murnane O’Connor. “The fund is the primary means of providing government funding to sport and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country, so it can make a huge difference to communities.

“In 2024, a total of 33 clubs, schools and local organisations in Co Carlow received a substantial funding boost through the fund, among them was Carlow GAA Centre of Excellence. I would encourage all clubs and organisations to attend the information evening this week,” said minister Murnane O’Connor.
