Milford couple celebrate 50 years of wedding bliss

FIVE decades of wedded blitz was celebrated in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Carlow recently for John and Marie Maher from Tomard, Milford.
The couple enjoyed a family meal to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, surrounded with love by their seven children, 16 grandchildren, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law.
John, originally from Athy, and Marie (née Fitzpatrick) originally from Bennekerry, were married in St Mary’s Church, Bennekerry in February 1975.
The couple met in The Towers, then a hugely popular public house and venue, which attracted all of the top bands of that era and where many a local love story began.
For the Mahers, the family get-together was extra special because it was the first time in a long time that they all had been together in one room, with many of the family now back in Ireland from their travels abroad, including Australia and England.
