Memorial matches in memory of Carlow teenager Peter Byrne this weekend

The late Peter Byrne

FAMILY, friends and football fans will get together this Saturday, 20 June, to remember a teenager from Carlow town who died in a drowning accident last year. Peter Byrne (17) passed away after getting into difficulty while swimming in the River Barrow last June, leaving behind a devastated family and many friends.

Peter, who lived in Carlow town, was a young man who lived his short life to the full and had many hobbies, including playing soccer for his club, New Oak.

Now, to mark the first anniversary of his death, his family and New Oak members have organised soccer matches in his memory. Taking place this coming Saturday at the New Oak pitch on the Burrin Road, Carlow, kick-off is at 3pm.

Expect a wonderful atmosphere at the match while the event will continue that evening in Carpe Diem pub, Court Place, Carlow, when medals will be presented with plenty of spot prizes up for grabs.

Admission to the New Oak Soccer Club is just €5 and all proceeds will be donated to local causes as selected by Peter’s family. All are welcome to attend.
