IT WAS the ultimate hoedown in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow recently as teams of energetic line-dancers took on a giant danceathon with gusto!

A six-hour line dance marathon was held in aid of Focus Ireland, raising a phenomenal €11,300 for this worthy cause. Focus Ireland is a non-profit organisation that provides services for people who are homeless and people at risk of homelessness in Ireland. Carlow is among the counties where it provides services.

Local line-dancer Mary Shannon organised the event, with participants definitely getting into the spirit of the fundraiser and American-themed décor adding to the fun and terrific banter among the dancers.

The dance marathon kicked off at midday and a whopping six hours later, at 6pm, ended with a flourish on a dance floor packed full of dancers.

And if all that dancing wasn’t enough, after a brief rest the impressive line-dancers were back onto the floor, this time with a night-time hoedown that kicked off at 9pm!

Even more line-dancers from near and far came along to join in, with a well-supported raffle adding to the huge total raised.
