Killeshin author brings fairyland to life with new winter-themed children's book
Vonnie Bolton's new book, Winter in Fairyland will be launched on Wednesday in Killeshin
THE Tooth Fairy and the youngest brother of the Three Little Pigs will be brought to life in Vonnie Bolton’s new children’s book .
It is Vonnie’s third book in a four-part series that puts a fresh twist on much-loved traditional nursery rhymes. The previous two books took place in summer and autumn, and the fourth one to come will take place in springtime. Each book has its own stories, but they all build up details of the magical world of Fairyland, with characters that appear across the books.
One story in the latest book is about a little pig who dreams of being a famous singer but has several obstacles to overcome before his dream is realised.
Another story, is a reminder for children that brushing your teeth brings rewards.
Vonnie describes it as a “story book, not a picture book” that grandparents and parents can read to their children, or that children over the age of six can read for themselves. She came to writing children’s book after a 34-year long career as a primary school teacher in Killeshin.
Geraldine Cooper Sheridan, from Athy illustrated the book and it’s dedicated to Vonnie’s third grandchild, Fionn (7) “the lovable rogue”.
She has self-published all three books and intends to donate 10% of any profit she makes on to St Fiacc’s House in Graiguecullen.
The book launch will take place on 13 November at 7pm in Kileshin Pipe Band Hall. Vonnie’s family, friends and the wider community are welcome to the launch, to hear excerpts from the book and avail of some light refreshments, cakes and chat.
Her daughter Yvonne will arrange a group of young traditional musicians for some terrific tunes.
The books will sell for €10 each, with a deal for two books for €18 or three for €25: an ideal Christmas present for book-loving children.
The book is on sale in various outlets in Carlow, Leighlinbridge and Killeshin, from bythebook.ie or from her home in Killeshin.
