Carlovians are all set for Valentine's Day

WELL, WHO knew? It seems that when it comes to matters of the heart, us Carlovians are the most loved-up lot of them all!

In Aldi’s latest Valentine’s Day survey, Co Carlow emerged as the most romantic county in Ireland – a proper bunch of Romoes and Juliets, it seems, with Cupid’s arrow aimed firmly on the scallion eaters!

Aldi carried out the survey across 26 counties among 2,000 people, revealing the heartwarming trends as we approach the most romantic day of the year.

Carlow was tops when it comes to romance, hitting all those high-romantic love notes, followed by Mayo with Westmeath in third.

The retailer’s research also revealed that 82% of couples are planning to celebrate St Valentine’s Day in 2025. It seems like love is definitely on the cards, or in the aisles, as Aldi notes the high number of those planning to celebrate the day of love, with 41% of those surveyed planning to celebrate it at home this month.

And with just under 70% describing themselves as ‘romantic’, it’s clear that love is in the air.

The survey also revealed that Gen Zs are leading the charge in celebrating love. Among those aged 18 to 24, a remarkable 55% view St Valentine’s Day as an exciting opportunity to express their love. Meanwhile, 51% of lovebirds aged 35 to 44 prefer to celebrate at home, creating memorable and cosy moments with their loved ones.
