Carlow Town Hall was lit up to support Darkness Into Light

THE success of this year’s Darkness Into Light Carlow was warmly acknowledged by members of Carlow County Council.

Cllr John Cassin congratulated the organisers, the volunteers and the hundreds of people who turned up to take on the walk. “It was fantastic and offered people a lot of hope,” he said.

Cathaoirleach cllr Fergal Browne also acknowledged its success and said there was a “huge turnout in Carlow town”.

“Congratulations, too, to the local businesses who opened and were there for the participants,” he added.

Cllr Adrienne Wallace paid tribute to Darkness Into Light Carlow’s chief organiser Ian Hannon, who she said, “lost his own brother to suicide”.

“I have a lot of respect for Ian in the face of his own tragedy and grief to do something so positive and take on that role,” she added.

Cllr Jim Deane also paid tribute to the organisers of Tinryland’s first half-marathon.

“Congratulations to the organisers and race director Greg Murphy, it was a huge success and they are hoping to double their number of participants next year,” added cllr Deane.
