A CHARITY head shave in Racey Byrne’s pub recently was an uproarious success! The pub was packed as people flocked to support the event, which was in aid of Carlow Mental Health.

Rory McGuinness said: “The place was jammed out the door! It took a lot of organising and hard work, but it was brilliant. As the night went on, people were getting brave after a few drinks and were getting their heads shaved. One lad even got his eyebrows shaved. There was a lot of hair on the floor afterwards!”

Hairdresser Amy Williamson was the woman wielding the razor, but others took turns to do a spot of freelance shaving, including pub owner Racey Byrne. Team members from Carlow Mental Health Association were there to show their support and join in with the craic while there was an amazing raffle that featured top prizes. “The local businesses were amazingly generous,” said Rory.

But even though the craic was in full flight on the night, behind the event was a tragic event that spurred Rory into organising it. One of his dear friends had just died under tragic circumstances, prompting Rory to raise funds for Carlow Mental Health Association. This was actually the second time that he organised a head shave, having previously arranged one last year.

This year’s event was even more special, because Rory and all the supporters were mindful of their friend’s absence.

“It was one of those nights that went really well. It was beautiful and I really hope my friend was looking down on us,” said Rory.
