THE community of Grange got together last weekend to host a special 12-hour walkathon and family fun day in the village.

Organised by Grange Village Committee and Grange GAA Club, participants had an early start, with the first of the 12 teams taking to the community track at 5am.
The walkathon was then followed by a family fun day at Grange GAA grounds, where there was a range of activities for all, including face painting and sporting events, with medals and trophies awarded to the children who took part.

An enjoyable day for the whole community, the event sought to raise funds for local projects.

One of which is the St Francis Farm Detox unit in Tullow. Karen Somers undertook to walk the entire 12 hours, from 5am to 5pm, in a bid to highlight the project’s work.
The facility is run by Merchants Quay Ireland, providing a 14-week residential rehabilitation programme.

Speaking on the importance of the project, Karen said: “We all know someone battling addiction, and it’s crucial to support services like St Francis Farm. I’m committed to raising as much as possible to aid those in need of this vital help.”

Grange GAA Club paid tribute to Karen’s “incredible” achievement.

Thanking organisers and families for their support, the club said it was a “fun-filled” day, adding that in particular, the children loved street performer Mr Gusto, who showed his juggling talents while on stilts, the balloon art, face-painting and, of course, the ice-cream!
