Golf event showcased Carlow’s classic courses

THREE of the region’s finest golf courses took centre stage recently as part of the annual County Carlow Golf Classic.

A total of 250 golfers teed off over three days on Carlow, Bunclody and Mount Wolseley courses for the event. The players, who came from all corners of Ireland and some from Britain, enjoyed three days of excellent golf along with delicious food and refreshments at each club.

The prize-giving ceremony and gala dinner in Mount Wolseley was attended by the lady captains and captains of Carlow, Bunclody and Mount Wolseley golf clubs.

Cllr Fergal Browne, cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, opened the presentation of awards after the gala dinner in Mount Wolseley, welcoming golfers to Co Carlow and highlighting the importance of the three courses to the tourism sector in the county. The classic was won by a combined team from Killarney, Castlegregory and Kanturk golf clubs.
