Go-ahead given for new daycare centre in B'glass

Baltinglass Hospital
PLANNING permission has just been granted for a new daycare centre and a six-bed community nursing unit in Baltinglass Hospital.
A brand new daycare centre will be built towards the front of the hospital, which, with a floor area of more than 370 sq metres, will be more than double the size of the current unit. It will be a stand-alone building, while 13 additional car-parking spaces will be created.
The plan also involves demolising part of the existing daycare wing and to double its size to create the six-bed community nursing wing.
A new plant room will be built, while an old post box and the original features of what was once a workhouse will remain untouched as they are protected structures.
Cllr Edward Timmins, who’s running for Fine Gael in the upcoming general election, said: "I welcome the granting of full planning permission for Baltinglass hospital. This will further enhance the great service provided by Baltinglass Hospital for both patients and daycare.
"I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the dedicated team of staff at the hospital.
"Their kindness has been noted in several reports and I would like to thank them for their commitment to the care of all residents.
"The new bigger centre will be a huge benefit for the wider area. The hospital holds a dear place in the hearts of many families."
