Palatine GAA Clubhouse was among the properties targeted

DETECTIVES in Carlow are appealing for information following a spate of burglaries across the county in the early hours of last Tuesday morning. At 4.20am, gardaí responded to a verified intruder alarm at Palatine GAA Club. The front door of the clubhouse had been forced open after being rammed by a car. The club’s cash register, which didn’t contain any money at the time, as well as a small quantity of alcohol, was stolen. The cash register was found by a member of the public in Linkardstown.

Gardaí say the break-in at the Bennekerry sportsground is connected to earlier incidents in both Rathvilly and Grange. Between 2.30 and 3am, the village of Rathvilly was subjected to three separate burglaries. Two business premises and the community centre were broken into. Entry was gained to the community centre through a window and a cashbox containing a small sum of money was stolen.

In the case of the two-business premises, forced entry was attempted, but intruders were not successful in their attempts. CCTV in one of the premises captured three male youths attempting to force their way into the building. They fled the scene in a small grey-coloured Mazda Demio hatchback car, with partial registration number 10D.

The thieves then made their way to Killerig, where they forced entry to a home in The Granary estate. The homeowner awoke to loud noises and people talking in the house. Nothing was taken from the property as it would appear the intruders were startled by the washing machine, which was on a timer, causing the would-be thieves to flee. CCTV in the area captured the same grey-coloured Mazda Demio hatchback leaving the scene. There was an attempted break-in at a second house in the estate a few minutes later at 3.40am. In this instance, the same three male suspects entered the driveway of the house, stealing a wallet and some documentation from a car parked in the driveway.

Tullow gardaí and the detective unit in Carlow are investigating all of these incidents and are appealing for any information to contact them on 059 9136620.
