A CARLOW castle will once again feature in a hugely popular online farming game.
The ‘Farming Simulator’ game, created and published by Giants Software, is played by farming enthusiasts all over the world. A key feature is the company software which provides tools that allow creators to build their own models, whether they are vehicles, farm equipment or maps. Creators can then upload their work to the Farming Simulator Modhub and after testing and approval they are released to players for free.
The creator’s items can then be accessed in the game menu under the public mods category. Since 2017, Ballymoon Castle just outside Bagenalstown has been featured in the game.
Creator Colm Nolan told
: “Looking over the area, we took an interest in the old castle which, after a little research, we realised is thought to date from the 13th century. It’s great when you can include something so historical in a project, so we decided to build the Ballymoon Castle Map,” he said.He then entered the map into a competition at the Farmcon show, where it won ‘Best Map’.
“This beautiful little area in Carlow became known to players worldwide,” said Colm. Now the castle is being given a revamp ahead of a new series of the game called FS25, which releases on 12 November for PCs and consoles.
“We hope to see it released sometime in early spring and look forward to sharing this little piece of Co Carlow to millions of players around the world,” said Colm.
