Funding boost for Carlow recreation projects
MORE than €125,000 in funding has been allocated for three outdoor recreation projects in the county.
Local and national public representatives welcomed the allocation of €125,253 in funding under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS). The investment will support the continued development of walking trails, woodland amenities and mountain access routes, directly advancing the ambition of the National Outdoor Recreation Strategy – Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors.
The funded projects include: Borris village looped walk – final phase completion: €40,000; Clogrennane forest – extension of existing car park, installation of woodland signage and picnic area – €35,753; and Nine Stones feasibility study – design, assessments and part 8 planning for refurbishment – €49,500.
Junior minister Jennifer Murnane O’Connor welcomed the news. “When I visit these recreational spaces around the constituency, you can see the positive effect the investment has had on these spaces. Giving them a vibrancy and new life. These spaces are essential for Carlow/Kilkenny as they promote local tourism and show off the best of our counties,” she said.
Deputy Catherine Callaghan said: “I want to thank the community groups across Carlow who work so hard to develop and enhance recreational amenities in our local community. These amenities are here for us all to enjoy. I really encourage everyone to get out there and enjoy the incredible outdoor spaces Carlow has to offer.”
Cllr Pender, cathaoirleach of Muinebheag Municipal District, said: “These projects not only enhance the beauty and accessibility of our local natural amenities but also promote tourism, community health and wellbeing. The Borris village looped walk, Clogrennane woods and the Nine Stones are jewels in our local landscape.”
