Volunteers and staff who took part in the Forward Steps charity walk

STAFF members, parents and children from Forward Steps Family Resource Centre all put their best foot forward recently when they took part in a sponsored walk for the charity AsIAm, an organisation that supports people with autism and other additional needs.

April has been designated as Autism Awareness Month and on the first weekend sponsored walks in aid of AsIAm, called the ‘Same Chance Walk for Autism’, took place all over Ireland, including in Tullow, where Forward Steps organised such an event.

Forward Steps FRC provides a range of supports for parents of children with additional needs, including music therapy, family days and weekly social support meetings for parents so it was fitting that it would organise the sponsored walk.

The walk was co-ordinated by Pamela Murphy, a family support worker in Forward Steps, and was supported by staff and parents.

The children really enjoyed the event, made all the more memorable by face painter Caoimhe O'Leary.

The organisers are very grateful to those who took part and would like to thank Carlow County Council for its help and Scats Bouncy Castles for donating the start sign.
