The cover of the book

THE GOTHIC ruins of Duckett’s Grove have enthralled people for decades; no surprise, then, that it has found its place between the cover of an intriguing new book.

Recently released, Abandoned Ireland 2 takes a glimpse at the faded beauty of Ireland’s abandoned buildings and estates through the words and pictures of award-winning photographer Rebecca Brownlie. In it, she explores Ireland’s most fascinating forgotten sites as nature threatens to reclaim them, from crumbling cottages and silenced mills to deserted mansions and imposing castles.

Carlow’s Duckett’s Grove features, with some wonderful photographs of the much-loved historic site.

Rebecca’s passion for abandoned buildings and love of photography led to her first book, Abandoned Ireland, which was published in 2022 by Merrion Press. In Abandoned Ireland 2, she travels further off the beaten path to explore and showcase Ireland’s forgotten buildings before nature or the demolition man claims them forever.

With more than 200 evocative photographs from all over Ireland, there is something for everyone to pore over in this stunning coffee-table book, which costs €24.99.
