Delta Centre on Kennedy Avenue gets planning

DELTA Centre has received planning permission to redevelop the former Ulster Bank premises on Kennedy Avenue into a new day care centre.

Chief executive of the respite care service, Joe Meaney, told The Nationalist that this is “a long-term project and we envisage when it’s open, it will support the community for many years to come”. Joe said the centre was not under pressure and could accommodate all referrals last year, but that they were “always looking ahead” to the needs of the community. He said they will now begin the tendering process for the construction work and plan to have the centre up and running by the end of the year.

Plans for the building include space for a new day service and administration offices on the ground and first floors. There will be four training rooms, an art room and four office spaces upstairs.

In its grant of permission dated 16 February, Carlow Co Council said Delta must submit plans for signage on the building before beginning construction and that the works must not interfere with traffic on the footpath and road outside the building.
