Culture night will be chockful of wonderful free events

COUNTY Carlow will be hopping with all forms of the arts when this year’s culture night takes place.

This year’s programme was launched Thursday in O’Shea’s pub, Borris when over 37 events were revealed across 26 venues on the evening of 18 September.

Now in its 21 st year, there is a wide selection of events, from late openings of the county museum and Visual, to a film screening at IMC Carlow, to trad sessions, dance performances and history talks. The earliest events begin at 4pm and the last event finishing just after midnight.

A number of pubs are hosting musical evenings including Scraggs Alley and Tully’s in Carlow, O’Shea’s in Borris, Lawlor’s and The Railway House, Bagenalstown and Conway’s in Kildavin. Music Generation Carlow will be at The Railway House offering an inclusive trad session, to which all are welcome to have a go at playing a tune.

Lamberts coffee shop in Carlow and Doyle’s ice cream parlour in Royal Oak will host musical events earlier in the evening.

Some other standout events include ***Tullow in Harmony**, an evening of live music performances in the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, a community ceramics experience in Ballon community hall and a talk by the author C Busher on ***How to be an Author*** in Bagenalstown library.

Speaking at the launch of the culture night programme, cllr Tommy Kinsella said: “This year yet again, we have seen an extraordinary commitment by communities and artists from across Co Carlow working together to showcase the very best that the county has to offer, helping deliver a programme which is diverse, open, inclusive and, most importantly, free to all to attend.” All culture night events are free to attend, though some do require booking in advance on the culture night website www.culturenight.ie/Carlow.
