A CIRCUIT court judge directed a jury to find a Tullow woman not guilty of 94 counts of theft or deception in Carlow Circuit Court last week after the prosecution failed to tender evidence in the case.

Karen Thompson, Templeowen, Tullow pleaded not guilty to 94 charges of theft or of falsifying documents on dates in 2015 at Flynn’s Garage, Dublin Road, Tullow, where she had been employed.

Ms Thompson’s trial was to begin on Wednesday 19 February, but after a jury was selected, the case was adjourned for legal arguments between Vincent Heneghan SC for the state and defence counsel Kathleen Leader SC.

Legal arguments took place all day Thursday and on Friday morning before Judge Eugene O’Kelly found that the state’s evidence was inadmissible to the court.

On Friday afternoon, Judge O’Kelly directed the jury to find 42-year-old Ms Thompson not guilty on all charges. The jury did so and all charges against the defendant were dismissed.
