Tullow man is fined €900 for drunk and careless driving

KEVIN Bermingham of 51 Parkgate, Tullow was convicted of drink-driving and careless driving by Carlow District Court at a sitting on 12 February.
The court heard that 44-year-old Mr Bermingham got into a two-vehicle collision while exiting a housing estate on the Tullow Road on 13 October 2025. At 9.34pm, Garda Tom Hennessy observed that Mr Bermingham had turned left, failed to stop at the stop sign and had no lights on. He subsequently failed a breathalyser test, which put his blood alcohol level at 61mg.
Mr Bermingham was charged under sections 48 and 52 of the .
Solicitor John O’Sullivan noted that his client had no previous convictions, had entered a guilty plea, albeit at a late stage, was a father of a child with special needs and had started a new training course, expecting to be in gainful employment shortly.
Judge Geraldine Carthy imposed a €500 fine on the defendant and disqualified him from driving for two years for the drink-driving offence and imposed another fine of €400 for the careless driving offence.
