Trial of Carlow man collapsed for legal reasons

The jury were dismissed

THE TRIAL of a Carlow man who was contesting charges of assault causing harm and of carrying a knife collapsed last week in the local circuit court after legal submissions were made. Brendan Keating, New Oak Estate, Carlow denied a charge of assault causing harm and the production of a knife at an incident that occurred at Cox’s Lane, Carlow on 1 February 2023.

The court heard most of the prosecution’s evidence when an issue arose last Wednesday.

After legal submissions by defence counsel Eamonn O’Moore BL, Judge Eugene O’Kelly told the jury that the trial was stopped for legal reasons and excused them from jury duty for five years.

Mr Keating (31) will be retried for the offences at the next sitting of Carlow Circuit Court in May.
