Man sentenced in Carlow District Court to a month in prison for stealing whiskey

A DEFENDANT was sentenced to one month in prison for stealing a bottle of Paddy’s whiskey by Judge Geraldine Carthy at a sitting of Carlow District Court on 12 March.
Peter Clarke (39), pleaded guilty to a theft offence under section 4 of the .
The court heard that on 2 February 2022 at approximately 7.30pm, the defendant and another male entered SuperValu in Baltinglass and stole a bottle of Paddy’s whiskey worth €16.50.
Insp Conor Nolan said that Mr Clarke of Broadlough View, Greenhill Road, Wicklow town, had 19 previous convictions, most recently for a public order offence in 2023 at Wicklow District Court. A bench warrant was executed earlier in the week at Wicklow District Court for Mr Clarke to appear in Carlow.
Solicitor Alexander Rafter told Judge Carthy that his client was “remorseful” over the offence. “He was in Carlow; he was drinking on the day.”
Judge Carthy sentenced Mr Clarke to one month in prison.
