Hacketstown man who hit juvenile pays €1,000 in compensation

A MAN who was involved in an altercation with a juvenile victim handed over €1,000 in compensatin and received a ten-month suspended sentence at Carlow District Court.
Jonathan Timmons, 6 Clonmore, Hacketstown, Co Carlow had pleaded guilty to assaulting the juvenile in an earlier court sitting arising from an incident that occurred at O’Reilly’s Service Station on 21 May 2024.
At the earlier hearing, the court directed that a probation report to be completed and that the defendant attends an anger management programme.
Solicitor Joe Farrell said his client struggles with mental health difficulties and “managed to stay on the horse recently”.
Mr Farrell said that Mr Timmins (34) had gathered a sum of €1,000 for the injured party and that he “really regretted the incident”.
Judge Geraldine Carthy noted the defendant’s seven previous convictions were all road traffic incidents. However, the victim impact statement was “quite stark,” the judge said, and the fact that the injured party was a juvenile was aggravating.
Taking into account the mitigating factors in the case, Judge Carthy sentenced Mr Timmons to ten months in prison, suspended for 18 months. She directed him to engage with the probation services and directed him to hand over the sum of money to the injured party.
