Charged with multiple rapes

Carlow Courthouse
A BOOK of evidence was served on a man from the Carlow/Wicklow border in connection with 58 counts of rape and sexual assault, when he appeared last week before Carlow District Court.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sent forward to appear before the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
The charges are alleged to have occurred between 1999 and 2003.
Judge Geraldine Carthy gave the man, aged in his 60s, an alibi warning, stating that if he wished to rely on an alibi, he must advise the prosecution team in writing.
She also granted legal aid to solicitor Chris Hogan, along with a senior and junior counsel.
Judge Carthy remanded the defendant on continuing bail on certain conditions, including not having contact with the alleged injured party.
