Carlow man allegedly broke victim's jaw in one-punch attack

Main Street, Ballylinan, Co Laois
A MAN who allegedly broke the jaw of another in two places over a lift will return to court in February to see how the DPP rules on the case.
Sergeant Dave Hanrahan told Athy District Court how William Donoghue (25) of Heather Hill Square, Graiguecullen, Co Carlow was charged with assault causing harm following the alleged incident on Main Street, Ballylinan, Co Laois at around 3.35am on 12 September.
“There was one punch and the injured party’s jaw was broken in two places, and it took two operations to realign his bite,” explained Sgt Hanrahan.
“The injured party alleges it happened just because he didn’t pick him up on the road and give him a lift. They would be known to each other, but they wouldn’t be friends," said investigating officer Garda Killian Fitzharris.
“Those are serious injuries, let me know if there are any adverse consequences?” said Judge Desmond Zaidan.
He then remanded Mr Donoghue on bail until 11 February next for mention.
