Bagenalstown men charged with affray

THREE men from Bagenalstown were served with books of evidence at Carlow District Court last week and were sent forward to the next sitting of the circuit court, charged with being involved in affrays and possessing threatening articles.
Billy McAssey, 6 Regent Street, Bagenalstown was charged with the offence of affray, that is, using or threatening to use unlawful violence, as well as possessing an article with intent on Main Street, Bagenalstown.
Oliver McGrath, 12 Glean na Beara, Bagenalstown was also charged with the same offences at the same location, while John Corcoran, Old Callan Road, Kilkenny was charged with the same offences at Kilree Street, Bagenalstown.
The charges arose from an incident that occurred on 19 December 2023.
Judge Geraldine Carthy put the three men on an alibi warning, telling them that if they rely on an alibi, then they must inform the gardaí.
Mr McAssey (40), Mr McGrath (46) and Mr Corcoran (40) will appear before the next sitting of Carlow Circuit Court on 12 November.
