Council springs mattress drop-off initiative

You can drop them off at Powerstown Civic Amenity site on the Kilkenny Road

CARLOW Co Council has announced upcoming household mattress recycling and household bulky waste drop-off events, community-focused initiatives aimed at promoting responsible waste disposal and supporting environmental sustainability.

The events will take place at Powerstown Civic Amenity site, Kilkenny Road, Carlow during August.

Householders are invited to drop their clean and dry mattress to Powerstown from 5-9 August for a subsidised price of €5 per mattress. Materials such as metal springs, foam and textiles will be recovered and reused in the manufacture of new products, saving significant volumes of natural resources.

This event will be followed by a bulky waste drop-off event from 19-23 August, again at Powerstown Civic Amenity site, where householders can deposit bulky waste items such as old and broken household and garden furniture and large toys at a subsided cost per drop-off.

Cllr Ken Murnane, cathaoirleach of Carlow Co Council, said: "These events are a fantastic example of how Carlow Co Council is leading the way in supporting our community to take positive environmental action. They give people across the county a chance to responsibly dispose of items that have reached the end of their life, while also promoting reuse and recycling. By giving materials a second life, we’re not only reducing waste but also strengthening the circular economy and advancing the goals of the UN sustainable development agenda."
