Council exploring more amenities on Tullow Road, Carlow

Carlow Town Hall

CARLOW Co Council is looking into adding more amenities to Carlow town under a ‘Tullow Road Area Masterplan’, Barry Knowles, senior executive officer at Carlow Co Council, said at a recent Carlow Municipal District meeting.

Currently, the Tullow Road Area Masterplan consists of the construction of a water activity centre and multi-function community hub, both of which were announced in late 2024. Mr Knowles said that the council is looking at potentially adding a family resource centre and a childcare facility centre, besides the multi-function community hub. The council is also exploring whether to add a park, community area and sports pitches to the site.

These potential projects are entirely dependent on whether the council can secure funding, Mr Knowles added.

In relation to the potential sports pitches at the site, Mr Knowles said that two local clubs are currently looking for sports pitches in the area. The relevant government minister has signed over use of the lands as sports pitches and the council is waiting for the paperwork to be finalised before making any further announcements.
