A COMMUNITY came together in their droves last week to support one of their own as tractors revved, hair was lost and everyone dug deep to support local man Tom Eustace. The event, ‘Tom’s Tractor Run to Recover’, was held to support Tom from Castlemore, who continues to recover following a significant fall earlier this year while attending a wedding in Rome. The fundraising event was held jointly by Tullow Rugby Club and The Fighting Cocks GFC, clubs where Tom is a very popular member.

“The atmosphere was absolutely electric. The crowds came in the afternoon and stayed all night … it was fantastic,” enthused Robin Johnson from Tullow Rugby Club.
The clubs were also delighted to welcome Tom’s family to the event, with Tom’s family members participating in the tractor run and his parents Michael and Maria waving off up to 300 vehicles that took part.

The tractor run set off from the Blackgates at 3pm and such were the numbers taking part that the first vehicles were back at the grounds as the final starters were setting off. The tractor run was followed by a mini-truck run for the day's youngest participants.
This was followed by a delicious barbecue, with more than 300 burgers served up, and then music by Brian Kennedy of Christy’s Shadow. Next up was the auction, with lots of terrific items going under the hammer, with Micheál Doyle and Eric Driver taking charge and getting top dollar for lots of great items. The auction was also available online, with bids coming in from all over the country and beyond.

Stefan Doyle of
fame then entertained the masses, followed by a head shave, with lots of lads bravely stepping up to face the shears. “We're delighted with how everything went and the great crowd we had all day,” said Robin. Tom's family have expressed their gratitude for all the support. "It means the world to us to see everyone coming together to help Tom on his road to recovery.”
