COUNCILLOR John Pender was elected as cathaoirleach of Tullow Municipal District at the annual general meeting last Thursday evening.
Cllr Pender was proposed for the role by cllr Ben Ward and seconded by cllr Jim Deane. He takes over from outgoing chairperson cllr Brian O’Donoghue.
Cllr Pender, who will celebrate next month a milestone 40 years as a councillor with Carlow local authorities, said it was a “great honour” to be recognised by his colleagues for the role. He said that it would be a busy year ahead for the municipal district as it works on the Tullow area plan, while he also acknowledged a change of staff in the council.
He said that the focus must be on ensuring that everyone was satisfied with the area plan before it’s submitted.
Cllr O’Donoghue was then elected as leas-cathaoirleach after being proposed by cllr Ward and seconded by cllr Charlie Murphy.
