Child (5) hit by car in Athy

Gardaí closed the road after the incident for technical examinations
Gardaí in Athy and emergency services attended a traffic collision that occurred at approximately 10:30pm on Wednesday night (26 February) on the Dublin Road (formally Leinster Street) near the Lidl store when a car collided with a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a boy aged 5, was conveyed to the Children’s Health Ireland Hospital at Crumlin for treatment of injuries sustained during this incident.
Unconfirmed local reports are saying that the injuries are not life-threatening, and “he’s gonna be OK”.
There are no reports on the condition of the driver at this point.
The road in Athy remains closed this morning as technical examinations are conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, but was expected to re-open around this morning 11am.
