CHAS to host talk on infamous 'Battle of Rathoe' this Wednesday
Author John Kelly will give the talk
A TALK on the infamous ‘Battle of Rathoe’, which resulted in Graiguecullen GAA club leaving Carlow and joining Laois, will take place this Wednesday, 16 September, in the Seven Oaks Hotel.
The talk, which will be given by John Kelly, author of the acclaimed GAA book ‘The GAA Covered’, will begin at 8pm and is being held in conjunction with the Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society (CHAS).
John will examine the history of Carlow GAA, the fractious relationship with Graiguecullen GAA and the events that led to what the described as ‘disgraceful scenes’, resulting in the abandonment of the game following the intervention of the Civic Guards.
The event is free and open to all.
