“THE kitchen is committed to ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry so your support is a vital part of that mission,” Fr John Dunphy of St Clare’s Hospitality Kitchen’s management team said at the launch of this year’s fundraising run.
The third annual 5km and 10km run will take place on Saturday 17 October at Carlow Rugby Club, Oak Park, with races starting at 10am. This year’s route has been redesigned to take in the Oak Park estate and organisers describe the course as 95% flat, suitable for runners and walkers of all levels.
Speaking at the launch, Fr Dunphy said the impact of public support goes beyond the meals served. “It fosters a sense of hope and belonging among our guests, reminding them that they are not alone in facing their challenges,” he said. “In a world where community spirit can sometimes wane, your commitment shines brightly and inspires others to join in our efforts.” He thanked the businesses, public and media partners for their continued support, adding: “Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most and we look forward to continuing this important work in the coming years with you by our side.” Event sponsor and co-organiser David Walsh of HaloCare said the campaign helped St Clare’s provide 16,400 meals in the local community last year. Funds are raised through a combination of athlete registration fees, business sponsorship and traditional line selling, with €10,000 raised from lines alone in 2025. “The support for events like the run means the world to us and to the countless individuals and families who rely on St Clare’s Hospitality Kitchen every day,” he said.
Entrants will receive a performance t-shirt and medal, with chip timing provided by Pop-Up Races and refreshments and a prizegiving ceremony afterwards at the rugby club. Entry costs €35 for the 10km, which is open to adults aged 18 and over only, €25 for the 5km adult category and €20 for the 5km U16 category. A family entry for the 5km, covering two adults and two children U16, costs €70. Organisers say every €2 raised will provide a meal for someone facing food insecurity.
