Cathaoirleach will visit Dole in September

A WEEKEND of is in store for cathaoirleach Tommy Kinsella and members of Carlow Co Council after they received approval to travel to Dole for the Chat Perché Gourmet Weekend.
Dole, outside Dijon in eastern France, is twinned with Carlow town. Its gastronomic festival takes place at the end of September each year and brings together ‘producers, food artisans, Michelin-starred chefs and artists in the heart of Dole’s Renaissance historic centre,’ the website reads.
One representative each from Carlow Tourism, Carlow chamber and the economic development unit of the council will join the cathaoirleach on the four-day trip. The entourage’s key objective is to consider whether Carlow businesses might be able to participate in the event next year and to explore other opportunities that could arise from the twinning of the towns, head of economic development Kieran Comerford explained to council members.
Cllr Kinsella will be the local authority’s international representative and will “contribute to the assessment of the strategic value of the engagement and the potential for future investment or participation,” wrote Mr Comerford in a letter to the elected members.
After banqueting, the team of representatives will have the difficult tasks of deciding whether they should return the following year with Carlow businesses in tow and writing a report of their impressions.
