Cathaoirleach rewards Tullow community stalwarts

Rathvilly Tidy Towns with their Cathaoirleach Award
TEN of the very best groups or individuals who strive to make their community better were awarded recently by outgoing cathaoirleach of Tullow Municipal District Brian O’Donoghue. Over 50 guests attended the awards ceremony, which took place in Teach Bríd, Tullow, where cllr O’Donoghue addressed the crowd by quoting Theodore Roosevelt. Referencing
quote, he said that it’s the person who’s willing to try but fails that counts, not those who sit back and do nothing.
The award winners were from various facets of the community in the Tullow area, from community and voluntary through to sport, business and local committees, who all help to make the district a better place.

“It was a great honour for me to recognise some of the great people in our district, many of whom I have seen their work at first hand. A lot of the work the award winners do will possibly forever go unnoticed to the general public, so it’s all the more important that the local authority can mark their achievements officially.

“I want to congratulate and thank all of the award winners and I hope their recognition will help keep the flame burning and drive their desire to continue making the world a better place around them,” said cllr O’Donoghue.

In the community service category, the award winners were Phil Heenan, Mary Cunningham, Gabriel Deering, Liam Murphy, Johnny Kelly and Mary Walsh. Tynock Tidy Towns and Rathvilly Tidy Towns won group awards, while James Foley took home the sports award and the business award went to Ciara Stanley.
